In 2000, Sotterley Plantation was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior, making it one of only 2,200 sites with this high designation!

Visitor Information

Sotterley is located off of Route 245 at 44300 Sotterley Lane in Hollywood, Maryland.

It is accessible from Richmond (110 mi.), Washington D.C. (60 mi.), Baltimore (90 mi.) and Philadelphia (130 mi.).

Directions from Baltimore:
Take Rt. 97 South to Rt. 301 South, then take Rt. 4 to Solomons, cross the Thomas Johnson Bridge, go to Rt. 235 and turn right heading north 4-5 miles to Rt. 245 (Sotterley Rd)., turn right at the Burch Mart/Shell gas station and proceed approximately 4 miles to Sotterley.

Visiting By Boat:
Call the Sotterley Office in advance Monday – Friday to check tour availability and to verify no Education Programs are scheduled at the pier when you plan to arrive. Student safety is first and foremost. No boats are permitted while programs are in session. Weekend boaters who have not called in advance Monday - Friday cannot be guaranteed a tour time. There is an approximately 15 minute walk to the Museum Shop for check-in.

Mansion Tours: *
Walk-in guided tours begin May 1, and end October 31

Wednesday through Saturday: 
- Site open 10 a.m. to 4 pm
- Tours at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:00 pm   
Sunday:
- Site open Noon to 4 pm
- Tours at Noon, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm

                         reservation only – contact office at least two weeks prior.

       mansion)
    - Monday: Self-guided tour maps and payment box at the Corn Crib
       (located near the parking lot.)

November 1 – April 30:
    Self-guided tour maps and payment box at the Corn Crib (located near the
     parking lot.)


Fees:

Guided Mansion with self-guided grounds tours:
$10 for adults / $8 for seniors / $5 ages 6-12 / 5 and under free

Self-guided grounds tours only:
$3 per person

Near-by Attractions

The Tidewater region of southern Maryland offers the visitor many attractions and is within easy driving distance of Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Richmond. Calvert Marine Museum and Annmarie Garden are less than twelve miles away in neighboring Calvert County. In addition to Sotterley Plantation, St. Mary's County boasts St. Mary's City, first capital of Maryland, Piney Point Lighthouse, St. Clement's Island and Potomac River Museum and Point Lookout State Park.
